Priestly Life & Ministry
"By sacramental consecration the priest is configured to Jesus Christ as Head and Shepherd of the Church, and he is endowed with a "spiritual power" which is a share in the authority with which Jesus Christ guides the Church through his Spirit." - Pope St. John Paul II, Pastores Dabo Vobis, no. 21.

Preaching the Mystery of Faith: The Sunday Homily
In response to Pope Benedict XVI's call to improve the quality of preaching to overcome ignorance of and indifference to the faith, the USCCB issued this unique statement on the Sunday homily during the Year of Faith. The document is biblical throughout, drawing upon the examples of Jesus' preaching in the four gospels as well as the writings of St. Paul, and articulates the homily's relationship with the Scriptures, the Eucharist, catechesis and Church doctrine.

The Basic Plan for the Ongoing Formation of Priests
Organized into three parts, these guidelines are to assist in developing local programs for the ongoing formation of priests. Part one focuses on the elements or dynamics of ongoing formation that are consistently present throughout priests' lives. Part two is divided into five sections and addresses tasks and dynamics of five key moments of priestly life and ministry (the first years of priesthood, priests in transition, the first pastorate, mid-life, and senior clergy). The final section looks at the formation of an entire presbyterate.
